Raj Thackeray Issues Stark Warning on Dirty Politics in Maharashtra

Thane, July 1: Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), launched a scathing attack on the current political climate in the state and the country, labeling it as “dirty and terrifying.”

Speaking at a press conference in Thane, Thackeray targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and criticized the rebel MPs and MLAs who broke away from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.

Commenting on the shifting loyalties and divisions within political parties, Thackeray expressed his views candidly, providing a clear example to explain the phenomenon of defection.

He pointedly remarked about the fractured factions of MPs and MLAs, stating, “The question is not who is buying, but who is willing to sell. If they are ready to sell themselves, buyers will always be found.”

Thackeray warned that the political culture emerging today could have detrimental effects on future generations. He stated, “Politicians do not realize the kind of example they are setting. What direction are we taking this country?”

The MNS leader cautioned that the BJP’s strategy to weaken its political opponents could backfire. He drew parallels with historical events, including India’s Emergency period.

He noted, “There is significant public outrage regarding the dirty politics in Maharashtra. When the BJP is no longer in power, it will face similar challenges. Everything has its limits.”

Thackeray emphasized that history shows that whenever rulers attempt to eliminate their opponents, enemies often emerge from within their own ranks to destroy them. He claimed that this process has already begun within the BJP.

Comparing the current power structure of the BJP to a fragile house of cards, Thackeray stressed the party’s over-reliance on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stated, “If the base card at the bottom shifts, the entire structure will collapse. The truth is that the BJP’s existence today is solely due to Modi, not anyone else. This political game could backfire on them.”

Thackeray addressed MNS officials in Thane regarding the ‘SIR’ issue. Later, speaking to the media, he referenced the assembly elections in West Bengal and Bihar, claiming that a massive government apparatus was used to influence the results, including the alleged removal of 2.7 million votes in Bengal.

He remarked, “The defeat of a Chief Minister like Mamata Banerjee is no ordinary achievement.” Mentioning Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Thackeray claimed that the strategy of breaking opposition parties without merging them into the BJP is a calculated chess move for future leadership claims.

Thackeray questioned, “Look at the pattern: when MPs from Shiv Sena or Trinamool Congress separate, why aren’t they directly merged into the BJP? Why are separate factions maintained? If there is internal dissent regarding future leadership for the Prime Minister’s position, these fragmented groups will be used to gather support. When you eliminate direct opposition, you create adversaries within your own camp. This reality will soon become apparent from the top levels down to the grassroots.”
