BJP Plans to Rally Against Government Over Farmers Issues, Says BY Vijayendra

Mysuru, July 2: Karnataka BJP President and MLA BY Vijayendra stated on Thursday that the controversy surrounding cross-voting in the recent Legislative Council elections has been resolved. He declared that the matter is now closed.

This statement comes amidst speculation of internal discord within the Karnataka BJP following the elections, where reports of cross-voting sparked political debate.

Vijayendra addressed the alleged audio clip involving senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, asserting that Gowda has clarified the situation himself. He said, “Sadananda Gowda has clearly stated that the voice in the audio clip is not his. He has clarified everything.” The state BJP chief did not elaborate further on either issue.

Regarding comments from some party leaders, Vijayendra mentioned that he has also spoken with BJP MLC H. Vishwanath. He emphasized that despite internal differences, the party will continue to strengthen its organization. “We are boosting the morale of our party workers and continuing our organizational work despite these challenges,” he added.

Notably, a viral audio clip on social media appears to show former Chief Minister and former Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda discussing the removal of BY Vijayendra from the position of Karnataka BJP chief. This clip has ignited a new political controversy and fueled speculation about internal rifts within the state BJP unit.

Vijayendra accused the Congress government of attempting to impose the proposed Bidadi Township project on farmers. He urged Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to engage in dialogue with farmers instead of acting arbitrarily.

He claimed that immediately after taking office, Chief Minister Shivakumar hastily initiated the Bidadi Township project and began pressuring farmers to relinquish their agricultural land.

“I, along with our opposition leaders, visited the project site. On one hand, the government claims that 80 percent of farmers have consented to the Bidadi Township. However, the reality is that nearly 70 to 80 percent of farmers are opposing this project. The government is trying to acquire fertile agricultural land, which is their means of livelihood,” Vijayendra stated.

He insisted, “The Chief Minister should engage with farmers instead of acting unilaterally. The government should not take steps that could displace them from their land.”

Vijayendra also mentioned that this issue will certainly be discussed in the assembly. He criticized the government for proceeding with the attitude that everything it has done is correct. “We will demand a detailed discussion on this matter,” he asserted.

Furthermore, Vijayendra noted that the BJP will continue its movement on several issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, the Griha Lakshmi scheme scam, and issues related to farmers.

He concluded, “On one hand, the SIR process is ongoing. On the other hand, we are preparing to launch protests regarding the alleged Griha Lakshmi scam. We are also planning movements in support of farmers.”
