Dehradun, 18 August (Kiran News): Intermittent rainfall continues in several parts of Uttarakhand, and this spell is expected to last until 20 August. According to the Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of Pauri, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital districts on Monday. Other districts may also experience thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain. The continuous rain has caused water levels in major rivers to rise, and the State Disaster Management Authority has issued alerts to all districts to remain vigilant.

Madmaheshwar Yatra Halted as Trekking Route Damaged
In Rudraprayag, heavy rainfall has led to the suspension of the Madmaheshwar pilgrimage. A 40-metre section of the trekking route near Bantoli has collapsed, completely blocking movement. During this incident, 153 stranded pilgrims were safely rescued by the SDRF and district disaster management team with the help of ropes and brought to Gaundhar village. MLA Asha Nautiyal has instructed the Public Works Department to prepare an alternative route within three days. She also informed that approval has been granted for the construction of a 90-metre-long suspension bridge over the Morakunda river. The steel girder bridge built in 2023 was destroyed by heavy rainfall, and since then, the yatra has been operating through temporary arrangements.
Administration Working to Reopen Gangotri National Highway
In Uttarkashi, relief operations are ongoing in disaster-affected areas. Despite bad weather and challenging terrain, relief workers are working tirelessly. The relief team used a raft in the Bhagirathi river yesterday to send domestic gas cylinders and other essential materials across the river, which were later delivered to affected villages. Additionally, food supplies were distributed in Dharali and other border villages. The district administration stated that ensuring timely delivery of relief materials to every affected family is a top priority. Regular supply of essentials is providing significant relief to local residents.
