Raigarh Police Busts Major Motorcycle Theft Racket, Nine Arrested

Raipur, April 5: The Raigarh district police have achieved a significant breakthrough in combating motorcycle theft. They have dismantled a large network involved in the theft and sale of motorcycles, arresting nine individuals, including the main suspect. Approximately 21 stolen two-wheelers valued at around 1.5 million rupees have been recovered.

During a press conference held at the police control room on Saturday, the Raigarh police detailed the operation. The increase in motorcycle theft cases prompted the Station House Officer (SHO) to implement strict surveillance. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team from the Cyber Police Station and the Pungipathra Police Station apprehended Sukadev Chauhan, a resident of Dhoradand village in the Lailunga police station area.

During interrogation, Sukadev Chauhan confessed to stealing motorcycles in collaboration with his accomplice, Shiv Nagvanshi. He admitted to stealing a Passion Pro from the Sarayapali market in July 2025, a Pulsar from the Tumidih market in August 2025, and an HF Deluxe from Poria village in March 2026.

Sukadev revealed that he sold the stolen motorcycles to nine individuals, including Kartik Ram Dungdung, Ramkumar Vaishnav, Keshav Yadav, Bhojram Pankara, Jagdish Pankara, Shivcharan Chauhan, Sukcharan Chauhan, Amit Kumar Nagvanshi, and Shivprasad Vishwakarma. All of them have been arrested.

The police recovered 14 motorcycles from the arrested buyers and discovered seven more hidden behind Sukadev’s house, bringing the total number of recovered stolen motorcycles to 21. The accused, who are professional drivers skilled in vehicle repair, reportedly used simple tools like screwdrivers to break motorcycle locks. They concealed the stolen vehicles in deserted areas and sold them at very low prices.

Authorities stated that one more suspect involved in the racket is still at large. Following the revelations, charges under Section 112(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for organized theft have been added against the main suspect. Cases have also been registered against the buyers under Sections 317(2) and 317(4) of the IPC for dealing in stolen property, and they have been sent to judicial custody.
