Mumbai, April 14: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has raised concerns regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to West Bengal. He acknowledged that it is good for Gandhi to visit the state, but questioned why he has only remembered West Bengal now that elections are approaching. “Where has he been for the past five years?” he asked.
In a conversation with a news agency on Tuesday, Nirupam pointed out that Congress has been out of power in West Bengal for the last 40 years. He stated that the party’s presence in the state has dwindled to zero, with no one showing interest in Congress. Now, with the election bell ringing, it is unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi is only now thinking of West Bengal.
Nirupam emphasized that visiting the state during election time will not yield any benefits for Gandhi. He posed a direct question: “How many Congress leaders have made an effort to connect with the public in West Bengal over the past five years?”
He lamented that due to a lack of communication with the public, Congress faces defeat in every election. Afterward, the party blames the Election Commission, which he believes is entirely unjustified.
Additionally, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to increase the minimum wage for workers, a move that Nirupam welcomed. He stated that the Chief Minister has taken a commendable step, emphasizing that workers are the backbone of the economy, and their interests should never be compromised.
Nirupam also criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC workers for their long-standing criticism of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list. He urged them to understand that the entire SIR process is being conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court. In this context, it is essential for Banerjee and her party members to trust the Supreme Court.
He advised TMC and its workers to refrain from discussing the SIR issue among the public, as it is being overseen by the Supreme Court.
Furthermore, regarding the conversion incident at the TCS company in Nashik, Maharashtra, Nirupam expressed that this is not a trivial matter but a serious issue. He noted that both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have taken it seriously. Following the incident, Maharashtra police have acted, leading to several arrests.
He questioned TCS, a company listed among the most prestigious globally, about how such unfortunate acts could occur under their watch without their attention.
