Womens Reservation Set to Transform Politics, Says HD Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, April 14: Central Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy stated on Tuesday that the full implementation of women’s reservation will significantly alter the political landscape. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, a 33% reservation for women is being ensured.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy noted that the number of Lok Sabha seats in the state is expected to rise to 42 after delimitation, with 33% of these seats reserved for women. His party will actively encourage greater participation of female workers in politics.

In response to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s criticism that BJP leaders are habitually dishonest, Kumaraswamy urged the Chief Minister to reflect on who is truly making false claims. He accused Siddaramaiah of taking credit for projects initiated during his tenure. Citing a bridge project leading to Sagarkatte village in the Chief Minister’s constituency, Kumaraswamy stated that the project was approved and funded during his government, yet it is now being presented as an achievement of the current administration.

Criticizing the government’s focus on guarantee schemes, he argued that the administration is glorifying 2,000 rupee schemes while claiming that people are living comfortably. He contended that policy announcements made from the air-conditioned rooms of the Vidhan Soudha do not address the real issues faced by the public. Moreover, he stressed that leaders must visit villages to understand the ground realities.

Kumaraswamy further stated that merely garlanding the statue of B.R. Ambedkar is insufficient. Leaders must ensure the empowerment of the communities for which Ambedkar fought. He described such efforts as a true tribute to the architect of the Constitution.

He also accused the Congress party of causing a breakdown in the state’s administrative system due to internal conflicts. Referring to the aftermath of the Davanagere South by-election, he noted that such infighting has adversely affected governance. While he refrained from commenting on the internal matters of other parties, he highlighted that ongoing disputes have derailed the state’s administration.

Kumaraswamy alleged that Congress is adopting a dual approach by appeasing certain communities while targeting their leaders. He asserted that democracy should treat all communities equally and that no community should be favored at the expense of another. Political parties cannot expect perpetual support from a single group. He added that the public is closely monitoring these developments.

He pointed out the ongoing tensions between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister over the past three years, indicating that there are no signs of resolution, which has harmed governance.
