R.P. Singh Addresses EVM Fire Incident, Urges Against Political Exploitation

New Delhi, June 14: R.P. Singh commented on the recent fire at a government building in Alipur, West Bengal, which reportedly destroyed around 4,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He emphasized that this incident should not be politicized. “Accidents can happen anywhere, and this is one such case. An investigation is underway. However, creating unnecessary political tension around it is inappropriate. Fires can start for various reasons, possibly due to a short circuit. Not only EVMs but several other documents were also burned in this incident,” he stated.

Singh criticized the opposition, asserting that reaching conclusions before the investigation is complete is not appropriate, and turning such events into political issues is misguided.

Regarding the demolition orders at the residence of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandeep Ghosh, he clarified that the action was not taken out of vengeance. “If a building is constructed illegally and does not comply with regulations, action against it is natural. This is not an act of revenge. Additionally, there were attempts to shield those guilty in the RG Kar case, making investigation and action necessary,” he explained.

On the Sindhu water dispute and statements concerning Pakistan, Singh reiterated the Indian government’s clear stance. He mentioned that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have made it clear that terrorism and water resources cannot coexist.

“India’s stated policy is that no concessions will be given to countries promoting terrorism. Until Pakistan ceases its support for terrorism, it will not receive any special benefits,” he asserted. He also noted that India maintains a strict position on the Sindhu water agreement, emphasizing that there will be no compromise on national security matters.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi‘s proposed nationwide campaign addressing issues like paper leaks and unemployment, Singh acknowledged the opposition’s right to campaign but urged them to recognize the government’s achievements.

“The opposition has the right to run their campaigns, but they seem to forget that millions have gained employment and self-employment opportunities through the central government’s schemes. Over 570 million people have benefited from the Mudra scheme, and large-scale job opportunities are being created every year,” he concluded.
