Kyiv, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : U.S. diplomats Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on September 7, 2026. Following the meeting, Zelensky described the discussions as “very important and meaningful.”
In a conversation with reporters, Zelensky highlighted that the talks focused on restarting negotiations related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as addressing Ukraine’s security and economic guarantees, and discussing a winter aid package.
“We are particularly hopeful for assistance in air defense and the energy sector. We also trust in the potential for a significant amount of U.S. LNG and its usage,” Zelensky stated.
He noted that representatives from several European nations, including the UK, France, and Germany, participated in the third round of talks. All parties agreed to reconvene for further discussions.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Zelensky mentioned ongoing efforts to resume trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia, aiming to find a resolution to the conflict.
U.S. diplomat Steve Vitkoff told reporters that both American peace envoys made “significant progress” during their discussions in Moscow. He expressed optimism that an announcement regarding trilateral talks could be made soon.
Vitkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv following their initial visit to Moscow, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Previously, delegations from Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia held two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24 and February 4-5, followed by another round in Geneva on February 17-18. These meetings aimed to explore a path to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict but were subsequently stalled.
Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov stated that Putin had engaged in open, constructive, and serious discussions with the American diplomats in Moscow. He noted that important issues were addressed in a formal working meeting, which continued informally over dinner.
Putin reiterated Russia’s willingness to collaborate with the U.S. to find a political and diplomatic resolution to the issues concerning Ukraine. Ushakov conveyed that the Russian side provided a detailed assessment of the situation arising from the special military operation, emphasizing the progress of Russian forces in the conflict zone.
He also mentioned that the discussions extended beyond the Ukraine crisis to include economic matters and potential mutually beneficial projects between Russia and the U.S. Overall, Ushakov concluded that the talks were timely and beneficial for both nations.
