PV Sindhu Expresses Regret Over Missing Ajit Pawar’s Final Baramati Visit

New Delhi: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu expressed her condolences on the passing of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The two-time Olympic medallist conveyed her regret for not visiting Baramati despite multiple invitations from the NCP leader.

Amidst ongoing local body elections, Ajit Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati on Wednesday to attend a public rally when the plane met with a fatal accident. The incident occurred around 9 a.m., resulting in the death of Ajit Pawar, the NCP leader, along with five others.

On the social media platform X, PV Sindhu wrote, “Rest in peace, Ajit Dada. I had the privilege of meeting you several times, and each time I was impressed by your discipline, dedication to work, and love for your people. You often invited me, saying, ‘Come to my Baramati.’ I kept thinking I would find the time. I never imagined I would regret not coming in this way.”

She also extended her heartfelt sympathies to the families of Captain Shambhavi Pathak, Captain Sumit Kapoor, Pinky Mali, and PSO Vidip Jadhav. “So many lives lost, so many families shattered. May God give everyone the strength to overcome this grief,” Sindhu added.

Ajit Pawar represented the Baramati assembly constituency seven consecutive times since 1991, winning each election by a significant margin. His influence was deeply rooted in Maharashtra’s cooperative sector. Recently, the Maharashtra Olympic Association had appointed him as its president for the 2025-29 term.

He served as the chairman of Pune District Central Cooperative Bank for 16 years and held considerable sway over sugar cooperatives and milk unions in the state. Ajit Pawar held key ministerial portfolios in Maharashtra, including water resources, power, and rural development, under four chief ministers – Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan, and Uddhav Thackeray.

His sudden demise has left a significant void in Maharashtra’s political and cooperative sectors.
