
Sonepat, April 6: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 8th convocation ceremony at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology in Murthal, Sonepat, Haryana, on Monday.
The Vice President expressed his delight at being present on the sacred land of Haryana’s ‘Dharm Kshetra.’ He paid tribute to Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram, describing him as a symbol of integrity, social justice, and visionary leadership. He noted that Chhotu Ram dedicated his life to uplifting farmers and marginalized communities, playing a crucial role in improving their socio-economic status and restoring their dignity.
Highlighting Chhotu Ram’s contributions, the Vice President stated that his emphasis on cooperative institutions and equitable land practices laid the foundation for a robust agricultural framework. He remarked that these efforts significantly contributed to Haryana’s emergence as a progressive and prosperous agrarian state, playing a vital role in India’s food security and rural development.
The Vice President congratulated the graduating students, expressing happiness that nearly 64% of the gold medalists were women, and women constituted about 50% of the total graduates. He described this as a reflection of transformative changes brought about through recent years’ focus on women-centric development. He noted that continuous efforts, including awareness campaigns and initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,’ have led to remarkable improvements in the gender ratio in Haryana, serving as an inspiring example of social change and inclusivity.
Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India, the Vice President emphasized that the call for a self-reliant India is a call for innovation, confidence, and indigenous solutions.
Recalling India’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted that while many countries and multinational pharmaceutical companies sought to patent vaccines for profit, India, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, developed vaccines and made them available free to its citizens, supplying over 100 countries. He stated that this reflects India’s spirit and greatness.
The Vice President discussed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, quantum computing, and green technologies. He urged students to embrace these emerging fields with curiosity and responsibility, using their knowledge as a means of nation-building.
Expressing concern over the dangers of substance abuse, he called on youth to resolutely reject drugs and pursue health, purpose, and positivity. He encouraged them to become ambassadors for a drug-free society.
Addressing the students, the Vice President stated that success in life is defined not only by achievements but also by character, integrity, and the ability to overcome failures. He advised students to endure hardships and injustices with patience, asserting that those who do will ultimately triumph. He encouraged them to face life’s challenges with courage and positivity, emphasizing that righteousness cannot be defeated by wrongdoing.
He also stressed the importance of freeing the mindset from colonialism, stating that true education should liberate thoughts, instill faith in India’s heritage, and foster a sense of pride in its intellectual traditions.
Emphasizing the significance of character and integrity, the Vice President advised students to uphold the values they acquire during their academic journey. He urged them to strive for excellence, contribute meaningfully to society, and play their part in building a strong and developed India.
Present at the event were Haryana’s Governor and Chancellor of the University, Professor Ashish Kumar Ghosh, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Cabinet Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma, and Vice Chancellor Professor Prakash Singh.
