Punjab Opposition Leader Warns Government to Release Employee Salaries Within 48 Hours

Chandigarh, May 4: Pratap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, has accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann of ignoring his advice. Bajwa took to X to express his concerns, stating, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, you sought my counsel in the Assembly, and I offered it in good faith. You have disregarded it and challenged the High Court’s order regarding employees’ dearness allowance (DA).”

Bajwa has issued a stern warning to Chief Minister Mann, demanding the release of employee salaries. He wrote, “Another point to consider. Punjab government employees have yet to receive their salaries for April. It would be appropriate for your government to disburse their salaries within the next 48 hours. Your finance minister claims that GST collections and revenue records are at an all-time high, so why are those who run this government still waiting for their rightful pay?”

Previously, Bajwa commented on the defection of several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MPs to the BJP, stating that the internal strife within AAP has revealed the party’s true nature. He noted that these developments have confirmed longstanding concerns that AAP’s politics in Punjab is more about accessing the state treasury than governance.

Congress MLA Bajwa remarked that Raghav Chadha claimed he could not remain complicit in the party’s ongoing misconduct, while Chief Minister Mann alleged that Chadha and others left the party because they were denied the opportunity to engage in corruption.

Bajwa emphasized that when both sides accuse each other of corruption, the truth inevitably surfaces. “This battle has never been about ideology. It has always been about the planned looting of money and Punjab’s public treasury,” he stated.

He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of playing a role in this entire saga, which he termed a “bargaining of the people’s mandate.” Bajwa claimed that central investigative agencies were allegedly used to uncover illegally amassed assets, but rather than ensuring justice, it appears that this information was utilized to pressure individuals and politically coerce them.
