New Delhi, August 30: Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have voiced their support for Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), following his statements regarding Hindu-Muslim relations at an event in New York. Bhagwat, during the “One World, One Humanity” program, asserted that India’s identity is rooted in “unity in diversity.” He emphasized that any Hindu who believes Muslims should not exist in India cannot truly be a Hindu.
BJP national spokesperson R.P. Singh remarked, “Hindus are meant to embrace everyone. The term ‘Hindu’ is not confined to any sect or religion, nor can it be limited to specific worship practices. Being Hindu is a way of life. Therefore, anyone who identifies as Hindu or believes in Hindutva must accept all faiths and paths equally. Bhagwat rightly stated that one cannot be a Hindu if they oppose Muslims or deny them their rightful place.”
BJP spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain added, “The message delivered by Bhagwat in America is not new. There may be narrow-minded individuals who think otherwise. Every Indian citizen, regardless of their worship practices, belongs in India. The concept of Hindutva does not isolate or exclude the Muslim community. We believe in ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). However, misconceptions about the RSS and BJP lead many to fall victim to misunderstandings. The country cannot function without Muslims. The Prime Minister also advocates for collective progress and trust. Bhagwat has affirmed that this nation cannot be imagined without Muslims.”
BJP national secretary Rohan Gupta stated, “Bhagwat’s remarks were spot on. The issue at hand was against appeasement, not against any religion. Every individual from any faith has the right to express themselves and practice their religion. When political parties misuse this for appeasement, it creates situations that Bhagwat addressed correctly. His comments were not against any religion.”
BJP spokesperson Yasir Jilani remarked, “In America, Bhagwat delivered a strong response to those spreading hatred. He showcased India’s true identity and introduced the world to our rich culture. What he expressed in America reflects the reality of India. This is our identity and part of our culture, which those criticizing him should understand, including New York Mayor Jahan Mamdani and opposition members who believe opposing the RSS will benefit them.”
BJP national spokesperson Tuhin A. Sinha emphasized, “Bhagwat’s statements in America are significant. He stated that any Hindu wishing for a ‘Muslim-free’ India is not a true Hindu. This reflects the RSS’s commitment to inclusive thinking and social development. However, it is concerning that Rahul Gandhi seems to be becoming a version of Jahan Mamdani in India. The hatred Mamdani harbors towards the RSS mirrors that of Gandhi and his associates, Pawan Khera and Priyanka Kharge.”
BJP national spokesperson Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan concluded, “The entire world is one family. Birth-based discrimination should not be part of our society or mindset. Bhagwat’s statements are accurate.”
