Chandigarh, April 10: A controversy has erupted in Punjab following the circulation of a video allegedly showing a minister threatening a businessman. Central Rail Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu announced on Friday that he would raise the issue with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
Presenting the victim, businessman Malkeet Singh, to the media in Chandigarh, Bittu emphasized that the BJP would take this matter seriously. During the press conference, BJP MLA from Mukerian, Jangi Lal Mahajan, also called for a CBI investigation and assured the victim’s family of their safety.
Bittu claimed that the current situation mirrors previous allegations against former minister Laljit Bhullar in Amritsar. He noted that the only difference is that while Bhullar’s case led to the tragic suicide of Gagandeep Randhawa, an official at the Warehousing Corporation, Malkeet Singh has chosen to fight back.
The minister stated that the BJP and other parties stand with the businessman’s family in opposing the Aam Aadmi Party government. He accused the state government of promoting foreign investment while simultaneously intimidating local entrepreneurs for extortion.
Malkeet Singh alleged that about a year ago, Minister Mundia commissioned a trolley worth ₹6.5 lakh but failed to make the payment. When Singh demanded the money, the minister pressured him to give up a stake in his business.
Additionally, Singh claimed that under the minister’s influence, the Punjab State Pollution Control Board and other departments issued notices against him, aiming to shut down his business.
He expressed concerns for his family’s safety, stating they have received threats linked to gangsters. Singh’s brother has already been attacked, yet despite filing complaints, the police have not taken any action against the minister.
