Congress Leader Pawan Khera Granted One Week Interim Bail Amid Passport Controversy

New Delhi, April 10: Congress leader Pawan Khera has received significant relief amid ongoing legal uncertainty over the past four days. The court has granted him one week of interim bail.

The court clarified that he must approach the appropriate court within the stipulated time for regular bail. This order comes at a time when Khera has reportedly been out of the reach of investigative agencies since April 7.

In fact, the Assam Police, in collaboration with the Delhi Police, visited Khera’s residence to question him, but he was not found there. This action is part of an investigation where Khera accused Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife of holding three foreign passports.

Meanwhile, Khera has approached the Telangana High Court for anticipatory bail. He stated his residential address as Hyderabad and requested relief in case of arrest. Reports suggest he has familial ties to Telangana and owns a private residence in Hyderabad. Additionally, this move is seen in light of the Congress government in the state.

The controversy escalated when Khera made serious allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Sarma during a press conference. Khera claimed that Riniki Sarma possesses passports from three different countries and that his supporters have documents to substantiate this claim. He described it as a significant issue in the politics of independent India.

However, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed these allegations as baseless, malicious, and politically motivated. He accused Khera of attempting to mislead the public. Previously, Sarma had sarcastically remarked that someone who was challenging arrest is now fleeing to Hyderabad to evade investigation.

During this period, CM Sarma announced that he and his wife would file both criminal and civil defamation suits against Pawan Khera within the next 48 hours.
