Punjab Government Approves Prosecution of IPS Officer Inderbir Singh in Drug and Corruption Case

Chandigarh, April 7: The Punjab government has intensified action against IPS officer Inderbir Singh, a 2007 batch officer, in connection with drug and corruption cases. The government has granted permission to prosecute him, allowing a long-pending case to advance in court.

Following this approval from the Home Department, the Vigilance Bureau is expected to present the case in court soon. This paves the way for the trial against Inderbir Singh, who is currently stationed with the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) in Jalandhar.

The case involves two separate incidents recorded in 2022, where serious allegations have been made against Singh, including involvement in a drug-related network and accepting bribes under corruption charges. The Vigilance Bureau had already filed a charge sheet against him after completing its investigation. However, the lack of government approval had stalled the proceedings.

With the recent approval, the investigative agency now has the authority to move forward with legal proceedings. It is anticipated that the court may begin hearings on this matter in the coming days, which could unveil the truth behind the entire case.

This decision is also viewed as a sign of administrative strictness. The Punjab government has consistently emphasized its commitment to taking stringent actions against corruption and drug-related issues. Granting permission to prosecute a senior IPS officer further reinforces this stance.

All eyes are now on the court hearings to see what facts emerge and what legal actions will follow in this case.
