Chandigarh, August 4: The Punjab Assembly passed a resolution condemning the frequent paper leaks occurring across the country. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
After the debate, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann addressed the media, stating that the repeated paper leaks during the tenure of the BJP-led central government have shattered the hopes of millions of students. Those seeking justice have faced tear gas, pellet guns, and police action instead of accountability.
The Chief Minister announced that the state government would send this resolution to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, urging the central government to take stringent measures to prevent paper leaks and restore the credibility of the country’s education system.
However, the main opposition party, Congress, staged a walkout during the debate on the resolution.
In the assembly, CM Mann criticized those claiming to make the country a ‘Vishwaguru,’ stating they have mocked the education system by failing to prevent repeated paper leaks. He emphasized that selling exam papers destroys the dreams of candidates.
He cited the tragic example of 22 candidates who committed suicide after the NEET examination. Since the BJP came to power in 2014, there have been 93 instances of paper leaks across the country.
Mann noted that between 2019 and 2024, there were 65 instances of such leaks, with most occurring during BJP rule in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
Expressing concern over the treatment of students, he stated that these leaders are altering school curricula for their political gain, which is unfortunate. Students have compelled the Prime Minister to demand the resignation of the central minister who failed to prevent paper leaks.
The use of tear gas, brutal police force, and pellet guns against students by the central government is appalling.
Further discussing the issue, CM Mann pointed out that while there is a global ban on pellet guns, the central government has brutally used them against innocent students. Instead of promising fair examinations, the Prime Minister is misleading the public with promises of fast-track courts. It is absurd that the central government is seeking assistance from defense services to conduct exams smoothly.
Despite ongoing investigations, the repeated paper leaks continue to affect millions of students. Although CBI inquiries are ordered each time, no one is punished. This has become merely a formality. The Prime Minister continues to assert that cases will be resolved in fast-track courts, implying that paper leaks will persist while resolutions come later.
