Chandigarh, August 27: Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda has expressed strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming they have completely ruined Gurugram, once developed as a ‘Millennium City’ by Congress.
Hooda, the leader of the opposition, stated that during the Congress tenure, Gurugram was transformed into a modern, world-class IT hub. However, he argues that the BJP has turned the area into a flood-prone zone. Even light rainfall leads to streets, lanes, and residential areas being submerged. The sewage system is in complete disarray, and there is a lack of basic drainage and sanitation infrastructure.
Having served as Chief Minister twice, Hooda found it absurd that a central minister from the BJP blamed Congress for Gurugram’s deteriorating condition, especially since the BJP has been in power at both the state and central levels for the past 12 years. He emphasized that this duration is ample time to establish a new city, yet the BJP has failed to manage the infrastructure of an already developed area.
Hooda pointed out that during Congress’s rule, Gurugram never faced such flooding, filth, and chaos. Since the BJP took over, flooding, traffic jams, and public distress have become commonplace after every rainfall.
He further noted that piles of garbage are now a common sight throughout Gurugram. Sanitation workers across Haryana are protesting, yet the BJP continues to ignore their legitimate demands. The public is suffering as stagnant water during the monsoon season is leading to the spread of various diseases.
Hooda’s comments came in response to BJP MP Dharmbir Singh’s statement regarding the mess created during the rains in Gurugram. Singh attributed the situation to various factors but also mentioned that officials are working hard to prevent traffic jams and flooding, although not everything is manageable.
