New Delhi, August 27: In a swift response to the devastating flash floods in Nepal, India has dispatched 10 tons of humanitarian aid and essential medicines. This initiative underscores India’s role as a first responder in natural disasters.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on social media that the aid is aimed at assisting Nepal in managing the flood crisis. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed India’s solidarity with Nepal during this challenging time.
According to sources from the Ministry of External Affairs, an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft has been deployed to deliver the relief supplies. The cargo includes temporary shelter materials, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and crucial medicines.
The Indian Air Force confirmed on social media that it has swiftly sent a C-130J aircraft loaded with 10 tons of essential relief materials and medical supplies to Nepal. They stated, “More relief supplies will be delivered via C-17 and C-130 aircraft, and helicopters have been deployed for rescue operations and evacuating people. We are committed to delivering hope during this critical time with speed, agility, and precision.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah to express sorrow over the loss of life due to the floods and assured him of all possible humanitarian assistance.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized on social media that the people of India stand united with their Nepali brothers and sisters during this difficult period. He stated that India is ready to provide every possible support for relief and rescue operations, with teams from both countries coordinating their efforts.
Meanwhile, the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi reported that the scale of the tragedy is vast, with many individuals, including foreign nationals, still missing. The immediate priority is to conduct search and rescue operations to save lives and deliver aid to those affected.
On Wednesday, following severe flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, there are fears of significant casualties, with hundreds still reported missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
