Beijing, August 27: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that President Xi Jinping will participate in the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from August 30 to September 3. During this visit, he will also undertake state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt at the invitation of their respective presidents, Sadyr Japarov and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
At a regular press conference in Beijing, spokesperson Lin Qian highlighted that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO’s establishment. Over the past 25 years, member countries have played a significant role in making the SCO the largest, most populous, and promising regional cooperation organization in the world, while upholding the Shanghai spirit.
Referring to last year’s SCO summit held in Tianjin, Lin noted that it initiated a new phase of high-level development for the organization. He emphasized that China is ready to work with all parties to strengthen consensus at the Bishkek summit, write a new chapter of cooperation, promote the security, stability, development, and revitalization of regional countries, and contribute positively to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Additionally, Lin provided insights into President Xi’s upcoming visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt. He stated that China and Kyrgyzstan share a strong bond as good neighbors, trustworthy friends, and partners with common goals. Last year, President Xi met with President Japarov three times, marking the beginning of a golden era of rapid cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan.
During the visit to Kyrgyzstan, discussions will be held between the two presidents. They will engage in in-depth talks on bilateral relations, cooperation in key areas, and international and regional situations. President Xi will also participate in various state events.
Lin further mentioned that China aims to promote high-quality development of comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Kyrgyzstan through this visit. The goal is to enrich the meaning of a community with a shared future, benefiting the people of both nations.
Regarding President Xi’s visit to Egypt, Lin noted that Egypt was among the first Arab and African countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of both presidents, political mutual trust between China and Egypt has deepened, yielding positive results in various areas of cooperation, increasing cultural exchanges, and enhancing multilateral collaboration.
According to Lin, this will be President Xi’s first state visit to Egypt in ten years, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The visit holds special significance for advancing bilateral relations, building on past achievements, and looking towards the future. During this trip, President Xi and President Sisi will engage in discussions on China-Egypt relations and international and regional issues of mutual concern.
The Chinese spokesperson also expressed hope that this visit will expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Egypt and contribute to each other’s modernization processes. Both countries aim to work together to write a new chapter in China-Egypt relations and positively contribute to maintaining regional and global peace and stability.
