Telangana Signs MoU with Korea National Sports University to Boost Athletic Excellence

Hyderabad, August 27: Telangana’s Young India Physical Education and Sports University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea National Sports University (KNSU). This announcement was made by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Telangana is committed not only to hosting the Olympics but also to nurturing athletes who can bring glory to India.

In a post on the social media platform X, he expressed his delight, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Young India Physical Education and Sports University has signed an MoU with Korea National Sports University, one of the leading institutions for high-performance sports.”

During his previous visit to South Korea, the Chief Minister met with a top delegation from KNSU, including its president, Moon Won-Jae.

He noted, “We had extensive discussions about the partnership between KNSU and the proposed Young India Sports University. This partnership is more than just an MoU; it serves as a bridge between Telangana’s sporting talent and global best practices in athlete training, sports science, and high-performance education.”

The Chief Minister highlighted that KNSU-trained athletes contributed to South Korea winning 16 out of 32 medals at the Paris Olympics. He stated, “We want to bring that culture of excellence to Telangana. From our villages and towns to the Olympic podium, Telangana is preparing for this journey. As India looks towards the 2036 Olympics, Telangana is committed to being ready—not only to host the world’s largest sporting event but also to develop athletes who can make India proud.”

Last month, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Gachibowli Sports District and Young India Physical Education and Sports University alongside Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha.

The sports university and its world-class sports academy will be developed over 82 acres. Amid efforts to host the 2036 Olympics, he expressed that it is his dream for Telangana and Hyderabad to host this prestigious event.
