PSG Makes Third Attempt to Sign Bernardo Silva After Manchester City Rejected €70M Bid

Paris, April 15: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has re-entered the race to secure the signature of Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva this summer, according to recent reports.

Silva is expected to leave Manchester City as a free agent when his contract expires this summer. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano and City assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders have confirmed the Portuguese midfielder’s impending exit in recent weeks.

During his nine-year tenure at the club, Silva has become one of the most decorated players in modern football, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and a historic treble since joining from AS Monaco for £43 million in 2017.

While a return to Benfica remains Silva’s ultimate ambition, both PSG and Barcelona have recently made contact regarding his free agent status, discussing potential wages and signing-on fees.

PSG’s interest in Silva is not new. The French champions previously made a bold €70 million bid for the midfielder in the summer of 2023, which Manchester City rejected. They have since shown renewed interest, especially with Silva now available on a free transfer.

This change in circumstances makes PSG a credible destination, unlike previous attempts. Barcelona had been seen as Silva’s preferred next club, as he has long wished to reunite with compatriot Joao Cancelo. However, financial issues at Camp Nou have complicated their pursuit.

Juventus has also reached out to Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, regarding a potential move to Turin. Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League has made substantial financial offers for the City captain, which he has so far declined.

Silva’s free agency is pivotal in determining how this summer’s transfer saga unfolds. The financial commitment required for wages and signing-on fees is significant but manageable for a club of PSG’s stature. With Barcelona still facing financial challenges and Benfica being more of a sentimental choice, PSG could emerge as the unexpected frontrunner in this competitive transfer race.
