Lucknow, April 15: Juhi Singh, the National President of the Samajwadi Women’s Assembly, has stated that the Women’s Reservation Bill has been passed, with support from the Samajwadi Party. It is now being revised for discussion in the assembly, raising questions about its implementation.
In an interview on Wednesday, Singh highlighted that claims are being made to provide reservation for women based on the 2011 census. While the SIR process was completed in just two months, the current discussions around the census seem stagnant. She urged the government to expedite the census process to ensure that marginalized women receive their rightful reservation.
Singh criticized the current government for its insensitivity, urging them not to exploit women for political gain. If true empowerment is desired, she insisted that concrete steps must be taken without delay. Failure to act complicates the situation further.
She firmly supports the idea of 33% reservation for women, questioning the basis on which the government plans to implement this. If the reservation is to be based on the 2011 census, she demanded clarity on the framework and how assembly seats will be increased. Transparency is essential to prevent injustice against women in any state, she emphasized.
Additionally, Singh commented on the Sabarimala issue, stating that it is a matter of faith and that any court decision should be respected.
Regarding the recent political shifts in Bihar, she expressed that while Nitish Kumar has moved to the Rajya Sabha, the public mandate was clearly in his favor. The transfer of Chief Minister responsibilities to Samrat Chaudhary is something the people of Bihar are unlikely to accept. She believes the electorate will respond to the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Singh also addressed the ongoing tensions in West Asia, advocating for peace and emphasizing the need for stability in the region to alleviate the various challenges faced by people.
