PSG Makes Third Attempt to Sign Bernardo Silva After Manchester City Rejected €70M Bid

Paris, April 15: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has emerged as a surprising contender for Bernardo Silva’s signature this summer. The Portuguese midfielder is set to leave Manchester City as a free agent when his contract expires this season. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and City assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders have confirmed Silva’s impending departure.

Silva has enjoyed a remarkable nine-year tenure at Manchester City, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and a historic treble since joining from AS Monaco for £43 million in 2017.

While a return to Benfica remains Silva’s ultimate goal, PSG and Barcelona have recently shown interest due to his free agent status. PSG previously made two unsuccessful attempts to sign him during his time at Manchester City.

In the summer of 2023, PSG made a bold €70 million bid for Silva, which City rejected. With Silva now available on a free transfer, PSG’s interest has intensified, making them a credible destination.

Barcelona had been considered Silva’s preferred choice, aiming to reunite with former teammate Joao Cancelo. However, financial constraints at Camp Nou have complicated matters, allowing PSG’s renewed interest to introduce a competitive dynamic into the transfer race.

Juventus has also reached out to Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, regarding a move to Turin. Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League has made substantial offers for the City captain, which he has so far declined.

Silva’s availability as a free agent significantly influences the summer transfer landscape. The wages and signing-on fee required are substantial but manageable for a club like PSG. With Barcelona navigating financial issues and Benfica as a sentimental favorite, PSG could indeed pull off a surprising signing this summer.
