Lucknow, August 26: Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Ravidas Mehrotra, has stated that to oust the BJP from power in Uttar Pradesh, the leadership of the India Alliance must be taken up by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
In an interview in Lucknow, Mehrotra emphasized that the only viable alternative to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh is the Samajwadi Party. With assembly elections approaching, he noted that the public has decided to form a government led by the SP, with Akhilesh Yadav as Chief Minister. Party workers are keen for Yadav to lead the India Alliance.
Mehrotra criticized the BJP for attempting to distract the public from key issues. He asserted that they will not allow this to happen and will raise matters that concern the populace.
He also took a jab at Congress, stating that the party should adhere to the principles of alliance. Reflecting on the 2017 assembly elections, he remarked that had Congress followed these principles, they might not have faced defeat.
Commenting on BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s remarks regarding actress Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement, Mehrotra said it is shameful for any woman to comment on the attire of a sister tying a rakhi to her brother. He accused Ranaut of merely making nonsensical statements.
On the parole of Ram Rahim, Mehrotra pointed out that despite being imprisoned for a rape case, he has received parole 36 times, indicating government support for rapists and efforts to free them from jail.
He further highlighted the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, including sugar and onions, attributing this to rampant black marketing under the BJP government. He noted that sugar prices have surged by 20 rupees per kilogram in just 20 days, showcasing the government’s failure.
Regarding the Allahabad High Court‘s decision on the hijab issue, Mehrotra expressed respect for the ruling but felt that both sides were not adequately heard. He mentioned that people would approach the Supreme Court, and everyone should respect its forthcoming decision.
