New Delhi, August 26: As the weather changes, cases of viral infections are rising in Delhi. Dr. Rajeev Bahal, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), spoke to a news agency on Tuesday regarding the H1N1 virus. He stated that H1N1 is a seasonal flu commonly referred to as a cold.
Currently, the cough and cold cases reported are primarily due to the H1N1 virus, a subtype of Influenza A. Dr. Bahal reassured the public that most of the H1N1 cases are mild and self-limiting, so there is no cause for concern. He emphasized that there is no need for people to undergo tests to determine the specific type of cough or cold they have.
Testing is only necessary when there is no treatment available. If you experience flu-like symptoms such as cough, cold, or fever, it is essential to follow general precautions. This includes taking medication on time, ensuring proper nutrition, getting adequate rest, and maintaining cleanliness. It is advisable to keep a safe distance from others to reduce the risk of spreading the infection. When coughing or sneezing, use a handkerchief or tissue.
Additionally, frequent handwashing is crucial. Dr. Bahal recommended that even those who are not ill should wash their hands regularly. If someone has a cough or cold, it is best to avoid close contact with them. If you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or any other severe symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
Dr. Bahal reassured the public that there is no need to panic about the seasonal flu, as it does not appear to be a serious illness. He expressed hope that there will be a decline in positive cases in the coming weeks.
