New Delhi, April 1: Priyank Kanungo, a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has targeted those opposing the FCRA amendment bill. He stated that the FCRA law is essential for ensuring transparency in the process of foreign funding entering India and its subsequent expenditures. The amendments proposed by the government aim to prevent illegal conversions and protect India’s demographic integrity.
Kanungo emphasized that altering the demographic ratio poses a risk to the country’s geography. He asserted that this law is crucial for the public interest. He accused opponents of wanting to change India’s demographics and undermine the nation’s sovereignty through foreign funding.
He further stated that the government’s efforts should be commended as a significant step in protecting human rights. Using financial power to facilitate conversions violates fundamental human rights. Kanungo expressed support for the government’s initiative.
He pointed out that increased transparency in the FCRA law revealed how the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation NGO, associated with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, was allegedly receiving Chinese funds for disruptive activities in India. He remarked that in a country of 1.4 billion, credibility is vital for those engaged in social service.
Kanungo questioned the opposition, urging them to demonstrate their genuine commitment to the nation. He suggested that if they truly serve the country, reliance on foreign funding would diminish. If foreign funding is necessary, they should clearly outline their intended actions.
