Jaipur, July 1: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma inaugurated the 29th National e-Governance Conference at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC) on Wednesday.
During the inaugural session, the Chief Minister emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to leveraging technology for good governance since 2014 has brought about a revolutionary change in public service delivery across the country.
He noted that the Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile (JAM) initiative has eliminated the role of intermediaries in the distribution of welfare schemes. Additionally, the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system ensures that the benefits of government schemes are deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Sharma highlighted that major initiatives like Digital India and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) have significantly accelerated India’s digital transformation.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Sharma launched several projects, including the Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time System (SMART) project, the e-Mitra WhatsApp service, and the Rajasthan Innovation Challenge. He also unveiled a coffee table book showcasing the state’s digital governance initiatives.
Under this new initiative, citizens can access 27 government services simply by sending a ‘Hi’ to the WhatsApp number 946106270.
These services include paying electricity and water bills, applying for various certificates, and accessing numerous other government facilities. Upon connecting, users receive a list of 27 e-Mitra services, allowing them to pay utility bills, apply for certificates, and avail themselves of other government services directly through WhatsApp.
According to the state government, this initiative aims to make public services more accessible and convenient while reducing the need for frequent visits to government offices and e-Mitra centers.
The event saw participation from representatives of over 80 central ministries and departments, 28 states, and 8 union territories.
Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions Jitendra Singh will join the conference on Thursday.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated and toured an exhibition showcasing technology-based government services and innovative digital solutions.
Rajasthan’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and the state’s Minister of Information Technology and Communication Rajvardhan Singh Rathore were also present.
Before the inaugural session, Chief Minister Sharma opened an exhibition highlighting digital governance initiatives and emerging technologies.
Following the inaugural session, the Chief Minister participated in a roundtable discussion with industry representatives.
