President Murmu Honors Nursing Personnel with National Florence Nightingale Award

New Delhi, May 12: President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Award for 2026 to nursing personnel during a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of International Nurses Day. Union Minister JP Nadda was also present at the event.

In her address, President Murmu emphasized that nursing professionals exemplify the highest standards of service. They play a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare, even in extremely challenging circumstances.

The award recipients include Kulvinder Parhi from Leh, Ujwala Mahadev Soyam from Maharashtra, Lalenthangi Hnamte from Mizoram, Madhu Mala Gurung from Sikkim, Pooja Parmar Rana from Uttarakhand, Geeta Karmakar from West Bengal, Poonam Verma from Chandigarh, Deepa Biju from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Shrawan Kumar Dhaka from Delhi, Raksha Roopoo Parvatkar from Goa, Kabita Jagannath from Karnataka, Manjumol VS from Kerala, Ayesha Bibu from Lakshadweep, Dr. R. Shankar Shanmugam from Tamil Nadu, and Major General Lisamma PV from the Indian Army.

The National Florence Nightingale Award is conferred upon registered nurses, midwives, ANMs, and lady health visitors who provide outstanding services in government and voluntary organizations at both central and state levels.

Each award includes a certificate of merit, a cash prize of 100,000 rupees, and a medal. This medal symbolizes the nation’s gratitude for the invaluable services rendered by these healthcare warriors.

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually to honor the vital role nurses play in hospitals, clinics, emergency departments, and community health care systems worldwide. The date marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, whose contributions laid the foundation for modern nursing practices globally.
