President Murmu Advocates for Livelihood and Leadership Development at Tribal University

Visakhapatnam, June 30: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh during its first convocation ceremony. She stated that the institution must foster confidence, leadership, and policy-making skills within tribal communities.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted that the responsibilities of institutions established for social justice extend beyond education. They must actively engage in areas such as education, health, skill development, livelihood, and forest rights at the grassroots level.

She expressed optimism that the university would significantly contribute to the holistic development of marginalized and tribal youth, as well as the overall progress of the region in the coming years.

The President urged all universities, particularly tribal ones, to develop innovation-based mechanisms to strengthen the livelihoods of tribal communities. She pointed out the need to create new job and income opportunities in sectors like forest produce, handicrafts, millets, medicinal plants, eco-tourism, and local entrepreneurship.

President Murmu remarked that the convocation ceremony is a crucial milestone in every student’s life. It is not just a celebration but also a time to make commitments for the future.

She advised students to focus on new areas of skill development to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world. Students should not limit themselves to textbooks but should develop practical skills by learning from their surroundings. They should also stay connected to their culture, traditions, and communities while working towards a better future for society and the nation.

The President stressed the importance of linking modern scientific benefits to every segment of society while staying connected to our heritage in rapidly developing India. She mentioned that the university has established a ‘Science and Technology Hub’ to empower tribal communities in North Andhra Pradesh.

She noted that the university is actively working on academic and grassroots initiatives related to tribal welfare, public health, climate change, food and nutrition security, and energy conservation. She expressed confidence that these efforts would play a vital role in building a developed and equitable India.

President Murmu concluded that the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh would contribute significantly to achieving the goal of a ‘Developed India’ through an inclusive and practical teaching methodology focused on environmental conservation. She hopes that by bringing the benefits of modern education to tribal society, local youth will have the opportunity to play a crucial role in the balanced and inclusive development of the country.

The event was also attended by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the state’s Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh.
