Political Turmoil in Karnataka: Siddaramaiah Resigns as Chief Minister

New Delhi, May 29: A significant political shift occurred in Karnataka on Thursday as Siddaramaiah resigned from his position as Chief Minister. Following his resignation, various political leaders have voiced their opinions. Dilip Ghosh, a minister in the Bengal government, remarked that it has been a tradition in Congress for chief ministers not to complete their terms. He noted that the same applies to ministers, although he acknowledged it as an internal matter for the party.

BJP Rajya Sabha member Lahar Singh Siroya stated that Siddaramaiah’s political career is undoubtedly over, and he has also ended Congress’s political influence in Karnataka. He accused Siddaramaiah of spreading communalism and sowing discord between Hindus and Muslims, which he believes will significantly harm Congress. Siroya welcomed Siddaramaiah’s resignation and urged the incoming chief minister to strive for a governance free from casteism and communalism.

In response to Siddaramaiah’s resignation, Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel emphasized that no member of Congress questions the decisions of the high command. He criticized the BJP for spreading hatred and lies.

Baghel stated, “Since the day I became Chief Minister, questions arose about whether I would step down after two and a half years. My only response has been that I will resign the day the high command instructs me to do so. One must continue to work according to the responsibilities assigned by the party.”

Additionally, Congress leader Santosh Lad expressed confidence that D.K. Shivakumar will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. He highlighted that the transition should occur smoothly and with dignity. He praised Siddaramaiah for handling the situation with grace, ensuring that there was no embarrassment for the party.
