New Delhi, July 29: A political storm has erupted in the Lok Sabha following remarks made by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi. Several BJP MPs have accused him of violating parliamentary traditions, making unfounded allegations, and undermining the dignity of the House. BJP leaders unanimously stated that if Rahul Gandhi has any evidence to support his claims, he should present it in the House; otherwise, he should apologize.
BJP MP Biplab Deb described Rahul Gandhi’s comments as unfortunate, asserting that the Opposition Leader shows neither respect for parliamentary traditions nor faith in the constitutional framework. He pointed out that Rahul Gandhi could not even correctly name the bill under discussion and continued to make accusations without staying on topic. He emphasized that any allegations against a minister or MP in Parliament must be backed by facts and evidence. Making statements solely for headlines is not in line with the spirit of democratic politics.
Deb further noted that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has made it clear that Rahul Gandhi should first apologize for his statements. Such behavior cannot be overlooked repeatedly, as it sends a misleading message about parliamentary procedures to the country’s younger generation. Parliament operates according to the Constitution and established rules, and every member must adhere to those rules.
BJP MP Harsh Malhotra also criticized Rahul Gandhi’s conduct, stating that his behavior resembles that of an anarchist both inside and outside the House. He noted that Rahul Gandhi does not adhere to parliamentary decorum and uses unparliamentary language despite repeated interruptions from the Speaker. Making serious allegations against Home Minister Amit Shah without any evidence is entirely inappropriate. Rahul Gandhi must either substantiate his claims or apologize in the House.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal alleged that the uproar in Parliament was premeditated. He stated that a serious discussion was underway regarding a crucial bill aimed at preventing paper leaks, but Rahul Gandhi created a new controversy. According to parliamentary rules, if any member wishes to accuse a minister or another member, they must first inform the Speaker and the concerned minister in writing, allowing for a proper response to the allegations.
Jagadambika Pal emphasized that the Parliamentary Affairs Minister asked Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether there is any document or evidence supporting his claim that the Home Minister allegedly ordered gunfire. Making such serious allegations without any proof is an attempt to mislead the nation. Previously, the Opposition was demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, but now new allegations against the Home Minister suggest that the Opposition is not interested in meaningful discussion on the bill but rather in creating disruptions in the House.
