
Nalasopara, March 4: In a startling incident in Maharashtra’s Nalasopara, police have successfully uncovered a shocking case of kidnapping and robbery. Five individuals were arrested by the Achole police for abducting a young man while posing as officers from the Crime Branch and stealing ₹2.69 lakh.
Following the incident, police acted swiftly, apprehending the suspects within just four hours. According to police officials, on the night of February 20, 2026, 27-year-old Nitesh Umesh Surjan was returning with a friend after withdrawing ₹2,69,000 from a UCO Bank near Regency Hall on Link Road.
During this time, unidentified assailants stopped them, claiming to be police officers from the “Crime Branch, Thane.” They forcibly made them enter a car and took them to a location on the crematorium road in Achole. There, they threatened to imprison the victims, subjected them to physical assault and verbal abuse, and fled with the cash.
A case was registered at the Achole police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Following directives from senior officials, the Achole police’s Crime Disclosure Branch initiated a technical analysis and a thorough investigation of the surrounding area.
During the investigation, Sudhir Shantaram Landge was detained in Nalasopara. Under intense questioning, he confessed to the crime and revealed the names of his accomplices. Subsequently, police arrested the other suspects, including Kiran Jagannath Dalvi, Rajesh Sadashiv Gosavi, Adil Mohammad Hafiz Syed, and Sundar Paleram Chawaria.
The accused admitted to planning the crime. Police seized a total of ₹14.69 lakh worth of items, including the stolen ₹2.69 lakh in cash, the vehicle used in the crime, three motorcycles, and mobile phones.
According to police officials, Sudhir Landge and Kiran Dalvi each have three prior criminal cases against them, while Sundar Chawaria has two. This operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik, Additional Police Commissioner Dattatray Shinde, Deputy Police Commissioner (Zone-2) Pournima Chougule-Shringi, and Assistant Police Commissioner Umesh Mane-Patil, led by Senior Police Inspector Sujitkumar Pawar and his team. The further investigation is being handled by Police Sub-Inspector Mangesh Wadane.
