Jaunpur, March 29: In a dramatic encounter on Sunday morning, police in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, clashed with armed criminals. During the confrontation near Khedwari Mor in the Madiyahu police area, one motorcycle-riding criminal was injured by gunfire, while his accomplice managed to flee into the darkness. The injured suspect was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to CO Paramanand Kushwaha, police were conducting checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles when they spotted two men on a motorcycle. Upon being signaled to stop, the suspects attempted to escape and opened fire on the police. In response, the police returned fire, injuring one criminal in the leg, who was subsequently apprehended. The second suspect took advantage of the cover of darkness to escape.
The injured individual identified himself as Shivam, also known as Golu Rajbhar, a resident of Manjhanpur. Authorities recovered a .315 bore pistol, two cartridges, and a black motorcycle from his possession. He has been admitted to the hospital for medical care. The officer in charge has been directed to file a case and proceed with further legal actions.
It is noteworthy that on March 23, police had previously apprehended a notorious smuggler, Arif, who had a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head, during another encounter. According to CO Pratima Verma, the Mirganj police were checking suspicious vehicles in the Godhna market area when they received information about two suspects fleeing from Bandhwa market towards Janghayi on a motorcycle, pursued by Machhlishahr police.
Upon receiving this information, Mirganj police quickly set up a blockade in the direction of Bandhwa. When they attempted to stop the motorcycle-riding criminals, the suspects opened fire. In the exchange, Arif was shot in the right leg, while his accomplice escaped into the night.
