PM Modis Commitment to Justice and Equality on Constitution Martyrdom Day

New Delhi, June 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Constitution Martyrdom Day by reflecting on the dark period when Indian democracy faced severe oppression. He emphasized the nation’s commitment to building a society dedicated to the ideals of justice, freedom, equality, and brotherhood.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi paid tribute to those who valiantly defended democratic values during one of India’s darkest times, the Emergency. He stated, “Today, we honor all those who stood firm for democracy during this challenging period in our history.”

He described the Emergency as a direct assault on the Constitution, during which civil liberties were stripped away, freedom of expression was curtailed, and political leaders, journalists, and social activists faced arrests. This era also showcased the extraordinary courage of countless citizens who refused to remain silent and upheld the ideals enshrined in our Constitution.

In his post, PM Modi noted, “For all of us, our Constitution symbolizes the aspirations, rights, and duties of 1.4 billion Indians. We reaffirm our collective commitment to protect constitutional values. Inspired by the spirit of our Constitution, we will build a nation that is always dedicated to justice, freedom, equality, and brotherhood.”

In another message, he reiterated that Constitution Martyrdom Day serves as a reminder of the time when Indian democracy was severely crushed. He urged everyone to remain committed to protecting democracy, the Constitution, and civil rights, while respectfully acknowledging all those who opposed the Emergency.

Additionally, PM Modi shared a Sanskrit verse, stating, “Freedom brings happiness, through freedom one attains the highest achievements. It is through freedom that one reaches a state of peace and ultimately achieves the supreme position.”
