New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on September 11, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families. In a post on X, he highlighted India’s unwavering battle against terrorism.
Modi wrote, “We remember and honor the victims of the horrific 9/11 attacks that occurred 25 years ago. We stand in solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones in that attack.”
He further stated, “Terrorism has claimed countless lives around the world. As a victim of cross-border terrorism, India has been at the forefront of this fight for decades. The threat continues to evolve, but our resolve against all forms of terrorism remains steadfast. We stand united in our efforts to combat this curse.” Alongside his message, he shared images from his visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in 2014.
The 9/11 attacks, which took place on September 11, 2001, are considered the largest terrorist incident in modern history, resulting in nearly 3,000 fatalities. Planned by the terrorist group al-Qaeda, the attacks were orchestrated by mastermind Osama bin Laden. Nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes.
Two of the planes crashed into the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center, leading to the collapse of both buildings. A third plane struck the Pentagon near Washington, while passengers on the fourth plane attempted to regain control from the hijackers, ultimately crashing it into a field in Pennsylvania.
The National Memorial and Museum, located at the World Trade Center site in New York City, serves as a tribute and historical institution honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks and the six victims of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, the memorial features two large waterfall pools in the footprints of the Twin Towers, known as Reflecting Absence.
