New Delhi, August 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that enemy nations are attempting to weaken India by sending drugs and targeting the youth. He described the illegal drug trade as part of the enemy’s “terrorist agenda.”
While launching the ‘Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India’ campaign, the Prime Minister urged young people to stay away from drugs and play a crucial role in building a developed India by 2047.
PM Modi remarked, “When a youth falls victim to addiction, it is not just that individual who loses; a dream is shattered as well. The consequences of addiction extend beyond the individual and family, impacting the nation as a whole. It weakens our country’s strength, and enemy nations make every effort to ensnare our youth in the trap of drugs.”
He characterized drug trafficking as a calculated strategy to harm India, stating, “Profiting from the supply of drugs and attempting to ruin a country like ours is also part of their terrorist agenda. Therefore, we must protect every young person from addiction. You must stay away from drugs to preserve your potential.”
Addressing the long-term adverse effects of substance abuse, he warned the youth, “Drugs may provide temporary highs or excitement, but they devastate your family.”
Emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation, PM Modi urged, “Do not hide this issue under social stigma. Those in need of help should seek it. Talk openly with them, consult experts, and work with medical professionals to help your child overcome addiction. We must create an environment within families for open discussions with children, so we can support them before they find themselves in such situations. If you pay attention, you will notice signs; you may observe changes in their behavior. They might appear lost, start hiding their faces, isolate themselves in their rooms, come home late, or ask for money without reason. These are some signs that indicate something may be wrong.”
