NCC Cyclothon 2026 Flagged Off by Union Ministers and Mary Kom in New Delhi

New Delhi, August 2: In celebration of 79 years of India’s independence, a grand flag-off ceremony for the NCC Cyclothon Expedition 2026 was held on Saturday at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The event was graced by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, and Olympic medalist boxer Mary Kom.

While flagging off the cyclothon, Dr. Mandaviya stated, “As part of the celebration of 79 years of India’s independence, 79 NCC cadets are participating in this cyclothon. The NCC symbolizes fitness, discipline, and community service. These cadets represent the future of our nation and our hope for tomorrow. Through this cyclothon, you are sending a message that the youth will play a vital role in building a developed India.”

He further added, “Today, PM Modi is also taking a pledge for de-addiction with over one crore youth participating. Young people across the country are initiating the de-addiction campaign through ‘My India’. Cycling is not just about fitness; it is a solution to pollution. It saves fuel. This campaign is taking place in over 18,000 locations across the country. It is evolving into a movement. This movement in India is being recognized on international platforms. Today, as you participate in this cycling event, you are celebrating the 79th anniversary of our independence with a message. I wish all the youth the best.”

Olympic medalist Mary Kom also inspired the youth present, stating, “The NCC Cyclothon 2026 is taking place here in Delhi. I want to tell the youth that it is essential to achieve much in life. Discipline is crucial in any field. Young people should remember to ‘never give up’.”

On the same day, the 84th edition of Fit India Sunday on Cycle was launched from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, themed ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India). Both the NCC Cyclothon and Fit India initiatives aim to connect youth with fitness, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle while raising awareness against substance abuse to build a healthier and developed India.
