Washington, August 2: President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States has agreed to pause planned military actions against Iran following appeals from Tehran and several Middle Eastern nations to de-escalate tensions. Trump claimed that a potential framework for an agreement has been established.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that while the U.S. military is fully prepared for action, he has decided to halt planned strikes to allow for diplomatic progress.
He wrote, “America is fully prepared and ready to strike with full force against the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Trump added that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries have requested Washington to delay military action. According to him, the proposed agreement includes the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threats.
The President said, “Based on this appeal, I have agreed to halt military action for the future of the world and for a successful and prosperous Iran, provided we can quickly reach a deal.”
He also claimed that Israel supports the decision to pursue diplomacy, stating, “Israel is with me on this commitment. Everyone get to work and make it happen.”
Trump did not provide further details about the proposed agreement, its timeline, or whether Iran or Israel has officially confirmed the claims made in his post.
Previously, Trump had stated that the U.S. would continue military actions against Iran until it stops threatening American forces and ceases its attempts to develop nuclear weapons. He expressed skepticism about the likelihood of successful negotiations with Iranian leadership.
Speaking to reporters after presiding over the first live televised Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump emphasized that the government will maintain pressure on Iran, even while diplomatic talks are ongoing.
When asked what to expect in the coming weeks, he replied, “We will strike them, and you know at some point they will say, we can’t take it anymore.”
He reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is Washington’s primary objective.
Trump stated, “They cannot have nuclear weapons. Iran will not have nuclear weapons. If they did, the Middle East would have been finished by now.”
The President noted that Iran has suffered significant military losses but emphasized that it still retains limited capabilities.
