Bikaner, August 2: Authorities have made a significant drug bust near the India-Pakistan international border in the Khajuwala area. Police seized a large quantity of heroin, weapons, and ammunition that were reportedly delivered via drone. One suspect was arrested while attempting to collect the smuggled goods.
Based on a tip-off, the Khajuwala police recovered 10 kilograms of heroin, 11 pistols, a substantial number of cartridges, and a drone. The arrested individual, Virender Singh from Jodhpur, was allegedly there to pick up the shipment.
Initial estimates suggest that the seized heroin has a market value of approximately ₹50 crores in the international market. The police have confiscated the entire shipment and initiated a thorough investigation. District Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa has also been dispatched to the scene.
According to police officials, this case may be linked to a smuggling network operating across the border. Investigative agencies are now working to identify other individuals connected to this network and to trace its connections across various states in India. Further arrests are anticipated.
Previously, the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit had disrupted a cross-border drug trafficking and organized crime network, arresting a smuggler with 20 kilograms of heroin. The suspect was identified as Om Sharma from Tarn Taran.
The DGP reported that the Counter Intelligence team in Amritsar received specific information about handlers operating from abroad who were illegally trafficking drugs. They were using drones to transport heroin from their associates in Pakistan to the border area of Ajnala. Following instructions, the drugs were then delivered to accomplice Sharma, who distributed them to other parties.
