
Bengaluru, July 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow on Saturday over the passing of Chennamma, the wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
In his message of condolence, PM Modi remembered Chennamma for her humble nature and unwavering dedication to social service. He noted that her simplicity and commitment to community welfare earned her great respect. The Prime Minister conveyed his sympathies to Deve Gowda and his family.
Later, PM Modi spoke with Deve Gowda over the phone, offering personal condolences and comfort to the family, while praying for their strength during this difficult time.
Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi, also expressed profound sadness, describing Chennamma as an exemplary homemaker and a symbol of simplicity. He stated that she was a source of strength for the Deve Gowda family and an inspiring figure for the state.
Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, BJP Karnataka in-charge and Rajya Sabha member, remarked that Chennamma embodied simplicity, courage, and unwavering support for her family. He emphasized that her life, filled with sacrifice and values, would always be remembered.
BJP state co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy noted that Chennamma was a woman of dignity and quiet strength, who stood firmly by Deve Gowda throughout his public life. He added that her life was a testament to grace and dedication, and she remained a source of inspiration for those around her.
Chennamma passed away at the age of 85 on Saturday. Leaders from various parties mourned her loss, remembering her humble nature, sacrifices, and steadfast support for the Deve Gowda family.
