Kutch, July 18: Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur, visited the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kutch on Saturday. He conducted a comprehensive review of the port’s operations, development projects, and future plans. Thakur praised the port’s operational capacity, infrastructure expansion, and efforts towards green energy, emphasizing its significance for the country’s maritime progress.
Upon arriving at the administrative office in Gandhidham, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit of the Deendayal Port Authority presented the minister with a formal guard of honor. Following this, he held a high-level review meeting with senior officials.
The meeting was attended by DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, Deputy Chairman Neelabhra Dasgupta, heads of various departments, and other senior officials. Local representatives, including Kutch MP Vinodbhai Chavda, MLA Malatibehn Maheshwari, and Gandhidham Mayor Divyaben Nathani, also participated, sharing their insights on the port’s current development plans and future strategies.
During the review, the Union Minister assessed the port’s operational performance, capacity expansion projects, logistics infrastructure development, and ongoing green energy initiatives. He noted that the Deendayal Port Authority is continuously enhancing its efficiency and developing modern facilities to boost the country’s maritime trade. He urged officials to focus on technological innovations and environmentally friendly projects to address future challenges.
Thakur highlighted a recent achievement of the Deendayal Port Authority, stating that it surpassed the milestone of handling 50 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo in the shortest time among all major ports in India during the current financial year. He credited this success to the collective efforts of the ‘Team DPA,’ port staff, workers, and all stakeholders. He expressed confidence that the Deendayal Port Authority would set new records in cargo handling, green energy, and green mobility in the ongoing financial year.
In the final phase of his visit, the Union Minister met with various stakeholders associated with the port, including port users, business organizations, terminal operators, shipping agents, stevedores, and other representatives.
