Congress Leader Criticizes Governments Response to Sonam Wangchuks Protest

Mumbai, July 18: Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in the national capital for several days, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital under the supervision of Delhi police and doctors. This incident has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, particularly from senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai from Maharashtra. He stated that the government should have sought a solution instead of taking Wangchuk to the hospital.

In a conversation from Mumbai, Dalwai remarked that Wangchuk had been protesting for nearly 20 days. “In my view, instead of trying to find a solution, the government took him to the hospital. I believe this is wrong. Despite the major NEET scam, the government has neither addressed the issue nor taken any action,” he said.

Dalwai further expressed that the Education Minister should have resigned by now. “In the past, whenever such scams occurred, the responsible minister resigned. However, we saw that even after the NEET paper leak, the Education Minister did not take responsibility and resign. In previous Congress governments, ministers would resign when held accountable,” he added.

Responding to BJP leaders’ statements regarding Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray‘s ‘Ram Raksha Andolan,’ Dalwai countered, “The BJP is making various claims. Are Lord Ram and his worship only for them? Even Jagadguru Shankaracharya has stated he will not visit the Ram temple, as it has turned into an office for the BJP and RSS. Questions have arisen about how donations made with great devotion were misappropriated. Even a poor person donates from their hard-earned money, yet there has been theft.” He accused the BJP of corrupting the political landscape of the country.

On the meeting between NCP(SP) MLA Jayant Patil and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Dalwai expressed skepticism about any merger taking place. “Even though Sharad Pawar has left Congress, he has never abandoned its ideology. Will he ally with a party that does not respect the Constitution? A party that collaborated with the British? I don’t think Sharad Pawar will join such an organization.”
