New Delhi, July 18: Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has accused the United States of targeting Iran’s civil infrastructure. In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iravani outlined the significant damage inflicted by U.S. attacks on critical facilities.
He stated that American strikes have severely impacted ports, transportation networks, communication facilities, logistics hubs, radar installations, coastal defense systems, and other infrastructures vital for civilian life and the country’s economic operations.
Iravani held the U.S. accountable for the resulting “deaths, injuries, damage to essential infrastructure, and environmental harm.” He emphasized that these attacks violate international law and pose a serious threat to “international peace and security, freedom of maritime navigation, regional stability, and the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.”
Iranian officials have reported that a U.S. attack damaged pumps at a desalination plant in the coastal village of Bounji (Jask County, Hormozgan Province), disrupting drinking water supply to 20 nearby villages.
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Hamzeh Pour, head of Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company, stated that approximately 10,000 people have been affected by the water supply disruption.
Pour noted that the pumping station and an electricity transformer at the Bounji desalination plant were completely destroyed. He warned that a severe water crisis has emerged in the affected villages, and local authorities are working to restore supply.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched missile attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. They reported strikes on the U.S. Navy’s fuel support pier at Kuwait’s Al-Ahmadi port and drone and missile attacks at Sheikh Isa Airbase in Bahrain. According to Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC also destroyed the U.S. intelligence data center ‘Batelco’ in Bahrain.
