PM Modi Commemorates 100 Years of UPSC with Special Stamp and Coin

New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the centenary celebration of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on October 1. During the event, he unveiled a commemorative stamp, a coin, and a special book to mark the 100-year milestone of the UPSC.

In his address, PM Modi paid tribute to Captain Smita Machhar, who recently demonstrated remarkable courage and composure in a critical situation. He noted, “Yesterday, an event occurred where Indian Captain Smita showcased patience, wisdom, and bravery. As Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated, this Indian prevented a 9/11 from happening. Every citizen of India should feel proud of Smita’s valor.”

The Prime Minister also shared that he had spoken with Smita’s family, including her father Bhupendra Bhai, mother Geeta Ben, and husband Sonal. He expressed hope that all Indians would pray for Smita’s good health and honor her contributions to the nation.

Reflecting on UPSC’s century-long journey, PM Modi remarked that while generations, governments, technologies, and syllabi have changed, the trust in UPSC remains steadfast. “This is a significant asset for all of you. Today, we released a commemorative stamp and coin to celebrate this 100-year journey. I salute all those associated with this milestone and wish you all the best,” he stated.

He emphasized that this celebration not only marks UPSC’s 100 years but also celebrates the aspirations of millions of youth who strive for success each year. “It is a celebration of the faith that every Indian has in this institution,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted UPSC’s critical role in providing the country with honest and dedicated officials. The commemorative coin and stamp symbolize this historic journey.

The UPSC was established on October 1, 1926, following the recommendations of the Lee Commission of 1924, under the leadership of Sir Ross Barker. Initially known as the Public Service Commission, it is now referred to as the Union Public Service Commission.

The two-day event includes participation from chairpersons and members of state public service commissions across the country, along with senior officials from the central government, academics, and UPSC officials.
