New Delhi, July 31: The protest led by independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, in the Parliament complex has intensified the political discourse surrounding alleged irregularities in donations for the Ram Temple. Several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ministers, and officials from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) have accused Rahul Gandhi, Pappu Yadav, and other opposition figures of disrespecting Lord Ram, Sanatan Dharma, and the traditions of saints.
BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma from Bhopal stated that during the protest outside Parliament, the opposition leaders disrespected images of Lord Ram and wore saffron clothing in a manner that he deemed offensive. He asserted that placing images of Lord Ram on the ground and dressing as saints reveals a lack of faith in Sanatan Dharma among these leaders. He labeled their actions as part of a political strategy aimed at appeasing Muslims, claiming that the opposition operates with an anti-Ram and anti-Sanatan mindset.
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Manoj Pandey also condemned the protest, arguing that those who previously questioned Lord Ram’s existence and opposed the construction of the Ram Temple are now pretending to be devotees for political gain. He emphasized that millions of Sanatanis understand such political theatrics and will respond accordingly when the time comes.
In Ahmedabad, BJP spokesperson Rohan Gupta remarked that insulting Sanatan Dharma has become a habit for the opposition. He questioned whether opposition leaders would dare to make similar comments or protests regarding other religions. He insisted that attempts to mock Sanatan Dharma for political advantage would not be tolerated, and those responsible should face consequences.
Surendra Jain, a leader from the VHP in Gurugram, described the protest as shameful, asserting that the actions of both leaders reflect an anti-Hindu sentiment. He stated that dressing as saints to protest is an affront to Hindu beliefs. Jain warned that if the disrespect towards Hindu faith continues, it could lead to a widespread public movement and demands for legal action.
He also noted that while everyone has the right to protest in the Parliament complex, using religious symbols before an investigation is complete is inappropriate. He criticized Rahul Gandhi’s behavior as unbecoming of an opposition leader, arguing that such protests violate democratic norms.
Senior leader Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti responded to the incident, stating that any opposition should remain within constitutional limits. She emphasized that if one holds an image of Lord Ram, it must be respected, and placing it at someone’s feet is unacceptable. She condemned the act of dressing as a saint for protest as an insult to the saintly tradition.
Referring to controversial statements made by Maulana Jargis, Sadhvi Jyoti urged the opposition to also condemn comments made against deities if they are genuinely sensitive to Sanatan Dharma. The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged irregularities related to the Ram Temple, and she suggested that instead of political protests, the results of the investigation should be awaited.
BJP MP Naresh Bansal labeled the protest in Parliament as an insult to Sanatan Dharma, asserting that such actions hurt the sentiments of millions of followers. He predicted that the public would respond to Pappu Yadav’s actions at the polls.
BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi in Lucknow stated that the investigation into the alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations is being conducted under the Supreme Court’s directives and supervision by the SIT. He accused the opposition of staging a drama for political gain instead of trusting the investigation process. He pointed out that those who previously obstructed the Ram Temple’s construction are now pretending to be concerned about it. He assured that the safety and management of the Ram Temple are secure in the hands of its devotees, urging the opposition not to politicize the matter.
