Hyderabad, July 31: The Election Commission of India announced on Friday that it has extended the deadline for submitting census forms under the Special Intensive Review (SIR) program to August 10.
This marks the second amendment to the SIR program, pushing the submission deadline for completed census forms from August 3 to August 10. Additionally, the deadlines for the rationalization and reorganization of polling stations have also been extended to August 10.
The date for the draft publication of the voter list has been moved to August 17, with the period for claims and objections now running from August 17 to September 16. The notice phase for resolving claims and objections will take place from August 17 to October 15, and the final publication of the voter list is scheduled for October 19.
Previously, on July 15, the Election Commission had amended the program. According to the schedule announced in May, the house-to-house enumeration by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) was set to occur from June 25 to July 24. The draft voter list was expected to be published on July 31, with the final list due on October 1.
Meanwhile, a status report released on Friday indicated that BLOs have completed 100% distribution of census forms. Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy stated that all 33,826,004 voters have received their census forms. Election officials have digitized 77.12% (26,088,334) of the census forms so far.
Due to over 7.7 million voters not submitting their forms, election officials have granted them an additional week to comply.
In neighboring Andhra Pradesh, the draft voter list published by the Election Commission on Friday following the SIR indicates that approximately 4.5 million names have been removed from the list.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav, the removed names include 2.23 million voters who have permanently relocated or were found to be absent, 1.52 million deceased voters, and 737,000 voters who were registered in multiple locations.
As of July 24, out of 416,276,694 voters, a total of 371,381,182 had submitted their registration forms. The remaining 4.489 million voters could not be traced, or their registration forms were not returned because they registered in other states or Jammu and Kashmir, or they did not exist, or they did not submit forms by July 24, or for other reasons were not interested in registering as voters.
