Beijing, July 31: A recent survey conducted by CGTN, under the China Media Group, reveals significant concerns among global internet users regarding the United States’ evolving stance on technology. The U.S. has introduced a policy claiming national security as a reason to impose restrictions on Chinese AI companies and further limit the export of related technologies and products.
The survey indicates that 83.5% of respondents worry that the U.S. may be shifting from a technology-friendly approach to a protectionist one, which could severely impact global AI research and applications.
According to the CGTN survey, 89.6% of participants believe that AI models will develop more rapidly through broader user engagement, feedback, and improvements. Additionally, 89.7% agree that international regulations should address disputes related to AI intellectual property rights, rather than unilateral arbitrary restrictions. Furthermore, 90.1% of respondents feel that the narrative surrounding the so-called threats of Chinese AI models does not genuinely focus on security but aims to maintain U.S. control over the AI ecosystem. A notable 88.7% assert that AI technological innovation should be based on global research achievements rather than monopolized by any single country.
Moreover, 82.1% of participants believe that controlling another country’s AI development under the guise of national security and intellectual property rights will ultimately harm the entire AI ecosystem. Meanwhile, 86.2% emphasize that maintaining openness and collaboration in sharing technological achievements is essential for fostering creative development in AI.
