Bhubaneswar, July 31: The political atmosphere in Odisha is heating up over the recent leak of question papers for the Post-Graduate Medical MD/MS examination. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government of failing to maintain control over the examination system.
The opposition party claims that during the BJP government’s 24-month tenure, there have been 23 incidents of question paper leaks. They are demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged medical PG exam paper leak.
At a press conference held at Shankha Bhawan, BJD MLA Arun Kumar Sahu and BJD Vice President Pratap Jena criticized the state government regarding the alleged leak during the medical PG examination conducted by the Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) on July 27.
Sahu stated that question paper leaks have become a common occurrence both in Odisha and across the country. Drawing a comparison to the Indian Premier League (IPL), he noted that these frequent leaks have led people to refer to them as ‘Indian Paper Leak (IPL).’
He emphasized that such incidents are ongoing, with allegations surfacing about the question paper being disseminated via WhatsApp on various mobile phones during the exam. Sahu claimed that not only the question paper but also the answers were circulating on mobile devices.
Senior BJD leader Jena remarked that the NEET question paper leak had shocked the nation, and the alleged leak during the Odisha medical PG examination has heightened public concern.
He pointed out that following the NEET controversy, the central government enacted the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024,’ which includes stringent measures against those involved in paper leaks.
The Odisha Assembly also passed a similar law, the ‘Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024,’ in December 2024 to prevent such crimes.
Jena accused the state government of failing to effectively control the system, despite having strict legal provisions against those involved in paper leaks. He highlighted that there have been irregularities in 23 examinations during the BJP government’s 24-month tenure, indicating a systemic failure.
