Chennai, April 8: Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) launched a scathing attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government on Wednesday, branding it a ‘failure model’ and urging voters to remove it from power in the upcoming assembly elections.
The AIADMK General Secretary addressed a public meeting in Velachery, accusing the administration led by M.K. Stalin of failing to fulfill key electoral promises, particularly in creating job opportunities for the youth and filling vacant government positions.
Palaniswami also criticized the government for its inadequate response to recurring monsoon floods in lower-lying areas of Chennai, such as Velachery. He stated that the DMK has not taken necessary measures to prevent waterlogging, leading to repeated hardships for residents during heavy rainfall.
He remarked, “Despite being in power for five years, there has been no solution to the flooding issues in the city.”
The former Chief Minister described the DMK as a ‘bad force,’ alleging a deterioration of law and order across the state. He claimed that women, children, and the general public feel unsafe, asserting that people are living in fear under the current government.
In contrast, he highlighted that the AIADMK government ensured safety during its tenure and took strict action against criminals.
Palaniswami urged voters to carefully assess the DMK’s performance between 2021 and 2026, questioning whether the government has provided any tangible benefits.
He alleged that despite Chennai being a major urban center, the current administration has not introduced any significant new infrastructure or development projects.
Addressing local concerns, Palaniswami pointed out that Velachery is particularly vulnerable to flooding during the monsoon season, accusing the government of ignoring repeated complaints from residents.
He promised that if the AIADMK returns to power, it will prioritize flood prevention and improvements in urban infrastructure.
