New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian has departed for New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled for 2026. Prior to his departure, Pajeshkian remarked that BRICS has emerged as a crucial platform for countering unilateral policies in the international arena.
The Iranian embassy in India announced his visit via a post on the social media platform X, stating, “President Dr. Pajeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran has left for India to attend the BRICS Summit 2026.”
According to the Mehr News Agency, Pajeshkian emphasized that BRICS, which now comprises 21 members, plays a significant role in addressing unilateralism in global governance. He noted that the organization has the potential to enhance economic, trade, industrial, and scientific cooperation among its member states.
The president highlighted that the primary goal of BRICS is to combat unilateralism, allowing countries to advance their economic and trade relations while maintaining their independence. He also pointed out that this year’s summit will focus on themes of unity, sustainable development, resilience, and innovation.
Pajeshkian expressed a desire for member nations to pursue economic and regional development without relying on the dollar and to confront the demands of major powers.
During his visit, he is expected to participate in key meetings, including the main gathering of BRICS leaders, the BRICS Economic Forum, and discussions aimed at strengthening multilateralism and inclusive global governance.
Additionally, Pajeshkian may meet with India’s Prime Minister, Malaysia’s Prime Minister, South Africa’s President, and other leaders attending the conference. He noted that the summit presents a vital opportunity to enhance cooperation among member countries.
Currently, BRICS consists of 21 members, including 11 full members and 10 new members referred to as “BRICS Plus.” Pajeshkian mentioned that BRICS nations collectively account for over 45% of the global population and represent nearly 35% of the world’s land area, possessing significant resources and capabilities across various sectors.
